Polar Fishing Gear was founded in 2005 by Atli Már Jósafatsson and has established its position as one of the leading company in trawl doors design.

With more than 35 years of experience in trawl door building, development, sale and marketing, Polar uses aeronautical computer simulation programs to design its trawl doors where main object is to obtain as good spreading force know by best door makers, but more importantly to achieve less resistance than seen before.

Developing process from computer simulation to model tests in Flume Tanks and to full size trawl doors tests during actual fishing conditions with support from skippers in all main fishing grounds of the world, has brought new dimension in trawl doors business where Polar is second to none.

The second generation of Polar trawl doors, the series of “hydro-wing” trawl doors are widely used on pelagic and semi-pelagic fishing has given improved resistance.

The third generation of Polar trawl doors, the patent pending “cross-curved” design is showing promising results during fishing trial.

Development of fourth generation of Polar trawl doors is in process, a semi-pelagic version of trawl door where main focus is on environmental friendly fishing and controllable fishing gear.

Polar trawl doors are used in all continents in the world for bottom, semi-pelagic and pelagic fishing.

Polar Fishing Gear has three manufacturing partners around the world, Hleragerðin in Iceland, Sounete in Portugal and Sinergia in Argentina. Each of them has years of experience in trawl doors manufacturing and with main focus on quality and craftsmanship.
